Phuket is a picturesque island located in the south of Thailand and is home to some truly unique places and experiences. For any first-timers to the island, you’ll want to know what places to visit to get the most from your trip, so here’s our list of must-visit areas.
Naka Weekend Market
The #1 on our list is obviously Naka Weekend Market! We are Phuket’s biggest and best night market, offering the best deals and the tastiest food all under one roof. Every weekend Naka night market hosts some great live entertainment, events and places to relax and enjoy.
If you want souvenirs, clothes, electronics, knick-knacks or food shopping, the Naka Weekend Market is the perfect night market. Naka Weekend Market is located near Phuket town, and we’re close to a lot of the other great attractions in the area.
Phuket Old Town
Not too far away from Naka Weekend Market is the Phuket Old Town. It’s a very scenic area that boasts colourful architecture from when Phuket was in its infancy. It’s a unique area to explore, and there’s lots of great boutique shops, temples, museums and a popular market to visit.
The Old Town is a fantastic part of Phuket for visitors to get a feel of how the island used to look before the tourist invasion. The main areas you will want to visit are on Thalang Road and Soi Rommanee, so if you’re new to the area, ask your taxi or tuk tuk driver.
Big Buddha, Chalong
The Big Buddha statue is truly a remarkable sight to see and a must for any visitors of Phuket. This marvel stands at an impressive 45m tall and is made of white Burmese marble.
Big Buddha is on the top of Nakkerd Hill, which has one of the best views in Phuket. At the base of the Big Buddha statue you will be able to enjoy great views of Rawai and Chalong. It’s the perfect place for someone that wants to experience a part of Thai culture, or for anyone that just loves to take breathtaking photos!
Patong Beach
There are many picturesque beaches along the Phuket coastline, but Patong Beach is arguably the most famous. Patong Beach is in the heart of Phuket’s major tourist area and spans long and wide, with clean sands and blue waters.
There’s lots of activities to do on the beach, such as Parasailing, Jet Skiing, and a number of Beach Clubs. Patong Beach is surrounded by many foreign and Thai style restaurants offering dishes from across the globe, and is only a short walk from the famous Bangla Road.
Visit Wat Chalong Temple
The largest and one of the more popular temples on Phuket is Wat Chalong. The temple grounds are vast, with very well maintained gardens, traditional Thai style architecture and lots of religious statues. Here you will be able to receive a traditional blessing and get a good glimpse at how important religion and respect are for the locals.
There are a strict set of rules to adhere to when visiting Wat Chalong, and these apply to all temples in Thailand. You must always wear clothes that cover your body from your shoulders down to your knees, and shoes must be removed when entering buildings.
These are just some of the many great places to visit on Phuket, but make sure to visit Naka Weekend Market first to get the most out of your time on the island.
